RFP Series: VPN for Broadband SMBs

SonicWALL, Inc. Founded in 1991, SonicWALL, Inc. designs, develops and manufactures a complete line of Internet security solutions that provide access security, security services and transaction security for small, medium and large enterprises.

Introduction
SonicWALL is pleased to have the opportunity to respond to this RFP from IPRVnet. SonicWALL has a security solution that can willfully meet the requirements of this RFP, and that can also provide IPRVnet a unique ability to extend IPRVnet's service offerings in the future.

SonicWALL has a unique line of Internet Security Appliances ranging from the SonicWALL SOHO2 up to the SonicWALL PRO-VX. All SonicWALL Internet Security Appliances include an ICSA-certified, stateful packet inspection firewall as well as options for IPSec virtual private networking (VPN), strong authentication with digital certificates, anti-virus and content filtering.

Solution Sets:
Low tech small office:
For scenario 1, SonicWALL proposes the following solution set:
Low tech small office solution

• One (1) SonicWALL SOHO2 Internet Security Appliance with VPN Upgrade
•  One (1) License for SonicWALL VPN Client Software for Windows • For central management from ISP NOC, SonicWALL Global Management System (SGMS)

The SonicWALL SOHO2 Internet Security Appliance would install between the Internet access device (router/modem/bridge) and LAN (hub/switch) as illustrated in (Figure 1). The SonicWALL SOHO2 provides an ICSA certified firewall to protect the small office LAN from Internet-borne threats. For remote access to the LAN by the office administrator, the SonicWALL VPN Upgrade would be activated for the SonicWALL SOHO2 and the office administrator would install the SonicWALL VPN Client for Windows on his or her remote PC. SGMS would be installed on an available NT 4.0, Windows 2000 or Solaris server at the ISP NOC to provide central management for the solution set.

  • One (1) License for SonicWALL VPN Client Software for Windows
  • For central management from ISP NOC, SonicWALL Global Management System (SGMS)
The SonicWALL SOHO2 Internet Security Appliance supports:
  • 10 or 50 users on the protected network (LAN)
  • Firewall throughput of 70Mbps
  • 3DES VPN throughput of 2.5Mbps
  • Up to 10 VPN security associations (configurations) or simultaneous VPN tunnels
Pricing:
  • SonicWALL SOHO2: $495 (10-user support) or $995 (50-user support)
  • VPN Upgrade for SonicWALL SOHO2: $495
  • SonicWALL VPN Client for Windows: $40 to $75 per license (depending on volume)
Management:
  • SonicWALL Global Management System (SGMS) pricing starts at $4,995 for 25 management licenses, with pricing dropping aggressively with higher volumes.

High tech dot-com:

For scenario 2, the High-Tech Dot.com, SonicWALL proposes the following solution set:

  • One (1) SonicWALL PRO Internet Security Appliance
  • Multiple SonicWALL TELE2 Internet Security Appliances for remote employees using broadband Internet access
  • Multiple licenses for SonicWALL VPN Client Software for Windows for remote employees using dial-up Internet access
  • For central management from ISP NOC, SonicWALL Global Management System (SGMS)
The SonicWALL PRO Internet Security Appliance would install between the Internet access device (router/modem/bridge) and LAN (hub/switch) as illustrated in (Figure 2). The SonicWALL PRO provides an ICSA certified firewall to protect the company headquarters from Internet-borne threats.

The SonicWALL PRO includes a separate DMZ port for public servers such as the mail server hosted by this company. For remote access to the LAN, SonicWALL has two options. Each broadband-connected telecommuter can use a SonicWALL TELE2 Internet Security Appliance to establish a VPN tunnel back to headquarters. For employees with dial-up access only as well as mobile workers, the SonicWALL VPN Client for Windows can be installed on each remote PC. SGMS would be installed on an available NT 4.0, Windows 2000 or Solaris server at the ISP NOC to provide central management for the solution set above.

The SonicWALL PRO Internet Security Appliance supports:
  • Unlimited number of users on protected network (LAN)
  • Firewall throughput of 80Mbps
  • 3DES VPN throughput of 5Mbps
  • Up to 100 VPN security associations (configurations) or simultaneous VPN tunnels
The SonicWALL TELE2 Internet Security Appliance supports:
  • 5 users on protected network (LAN)
  • Firewall throughput of 70Mbps
  • 3DES VPN throughput of 2.5Mbps
  • Up to 5 VPN security associations (configurations) or simultaneous VPN tunnels
Pricing:
  • SonicWALL PRO: $2,995
  • Note that VPN is included standard in the SonicWALL PRO
  • SonicWALL TELE2: $595 per unit
  • Note that VPN is included standard in the SonicWALL TELE2

For scenario 3, the Multi-Office Business, SonicWALL proposes the following solution set:

  • One (1) SonicWALL PRO or PRO-VX Internet Security Appliance
  • Multiple SonicWALL SOHO2 Internet Security Appliances with VPN Upgrades for branch offices
  • Multiple SonicWALL TELE2 Internet Security Appliances for remote employees using broadband Internet access
  • Multiple licenses for SonicWALL VPN Client Software for Windows for remote employees using dial-up Internet access
  • For central management from ISP NOC, SonicWALL Global Management System (SGMS)

For branch office connectivity, each branch office would be equipped with a SonicWALL SOHO2 Internet Security Appliance with VPN Upgrade. For employee remote access to the LAN, SonicWALL has two options. Each broadband-connected telecommuter can use a SonicWALL TELE2 Internet Security Appliance to establish a VPN tunnel back to headquarters. For employees with dial-up access only as well as mobile workers, the SonicWALL VPN Client for Windows can be installed on each remote PC. SGMS would be installed on an available NT 4.0, Windows 2000 or Solaris server at the ISP NOC to provide central management for the solution set.

  • Firewall throughput of 80Mbps
  • 3DES VPN throughput of 45Mbps
  • Up to 1000 VPN security associations (configurations) or simultaneous VPN tunnels

  • Unlimited number of users on protected network (LAN)
  • Firewall throughput of 80Mbps
  • 3DES VPN throughput of 5Mbps
  • Up to 100 VPN security associations (configurations) or simultaneous VPN tunnels
