Backbone Directory:
Intermedia Communications
Email a colleague

Founded in 1987, Intermedia delivers integrated communications services like voice and data services, which include local and long distance, Internet connectivity, and advanced network access services.

Intermedia provides integrated next generation data-centric solutions for communications needs of business and government customers in major U.S. Markets. It offers broadband data, high-speed Internet access, advanced network and voice services.

Intermedia's network combines frame relay services with Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) switching technology to support speeds ranging from T1 to DS3, to OC3 and beyond.

For frame sizes less than or equal to 64 bytes (including protocol overhead), Intermedia's objective is to achieve a Network Transit Delay PoP-to-PoP, On-Net of 60 milliseconds or less, one-way; or 120 milliseconds round-trip, for a 64-byte frame. Sixty-four bytes serves as the average size of latency sensitive Synchronous Network Architecture frames. The total round trip delay is measured through the Intermedia owned and managed network, excluding LEC access facilities and Intermedia partner networks.

Complete backbone survey

Intermedia provides two metrics by which to measure network availability. A 99.99% availability metric between two Intermedia PoPs and a 99.95% End-to-End customer network availability metric, which is based on total PVC availability as a percentage of total monthly PVC minute uptime.

Intermedia Communications' full range of services are utilized by approximately 90,000 business customers nationwide. Headquartered in Tampa, FL, Intermedia is among the largest independent Competitive Local Exchange Carriers, the nation's fourth largest frame relay provider, a leading systems integration provider, a leading Internet Service Provider and the nation's largest provider of multi-tenant services.
