Colocation Provider Profile: KPNQwest KPNQwest is a publicly traded pan-European backbone provider. The company is a joint venture between Dutch KPN and U.S.-based Qwest. It is building massive, full service CyberCentres across Europe. KPNQwest is a publicly traded, pan-European provider of IP-based services. KPNQwest was originally created in April, 1999 as a joint venture between KPN, a Dutch telecommunications company, and the US alternative carrier Qwest Communications. It operates a fiber-optic network which, when complete, will connect 50 cities across Europe. KPNQwest owns 15 ISPs across Europe through which it offers a full range of value added Internet services ranging from dedicated Internet access and colocation to private label, IP-Virtual Private Network (VPN), e-commerce, hosting, and ASP services. In addition to services offered through its ISPs, KPNQwest has opened three mega-CyberCentres across Europe. Each CyberCentre measures at least 10,000 square meters. The first mega-CyberCentre was opened in Munich in July 2000 (Evaltis Rating Report available), and the second and third were recently opened in London and Paris (Evaltis Rating Reports not yet available).
