Jump.Net Offers Flat-Fee Peering Deal Texas service providers will be able to set up inexpensive interconnects at DSL provider's private access points. ISP-Planet Staff Digital subscriber line service provider Jump.Net Tuesday (May 2) decided to offer private peering programs for Internet and application service providers in select Texas markets. The private peering endeavor would allow service providers in Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Corpus Christi, and Austin to offload bandwidth destined for peer networks to Jump.Net's Private Peering Access Point. Scott Hebert, Jump.Net system administrator technical manager, said peering represents the single greatest benefit in network interconnection. "It's a win-win situation," Hebert said. "Both sides benefit from lower latency access to the other network, as well as reduced usage on egress connections which result in increased available bandwidth for egress traffic, and lower costs for those connections." Because of Jump.Net's private peering configurations at its access points, all partners would equally share the opportunity to peer with other partners in addition to Jump.Net. In order to peer with Jump.Net, ISP and ASP partners must have a 10baseT or 100baseTX handoff. Peering partners must also utilize Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) 4 to exchange routes, and both parties will use IP addresses assigned by Jump.Net for each end of the interconnect. Jump.Net peering partners are assessed a one-time $250 activation fee, after which no fees will be incurred. Jump.Net is an ISP that serves over 12,000 subscribers and 8,500 Web hosting and collocation customers in more than 90 cities nationwide. Founded in 1995 at Austin, Texas, Jump.Net is one of the nation's original DSL providers tapping into the high-speed Internet service market across all its service areas. End
