Corvis Wants Government Sales The optical networking firm aims to tap the largest bandwidth user in the world through its new subsidiary, Corvis Government Solutions Inc. (CGSI).
Optical networking equipment manufacturer Corvis has established Corvis Government Solutions Inc. (CGSI) as a subsidiary to provide optical networking solutions and services to the federal marketplace. The Columbia, Md.-based Corvis also announced that CGSI has formed a technical advisory board comprised of defense and intelligence experts, and has made an initial sale to the U.S. government for its next generation optical networking products. Details of the agreement were not disclosed. "As the largest bandwidth user in the world, the U.S. Government represents an important and growing market for Corvis," said Kim D. Larsen, president of the Government Solutions subsidiary and senior vice president of business development at Corvis. "We plan to leverage the telecommunications systems expertise of our technical advisory board members as we pursue this new business opportunity." CGSI was launched earlier this year with the appointment of John R. McGowan as vice president for government solutions. McGowan has held senior management positions at AT&T Bell Laboratories, AT&T Defense Markets, Lucent Government Solutions, and served as the founder and vice president of Qwest Government Systems. Corvis provides carriers with scalable optical networking solutions and services that reduce the overall expenses associated with building and operating networks. Carriers deploying Corvis' optical network solutions can provision new wavelength-based services and tailor dynamic service-level agreements for revenue generation. End
