MRV Communications, a Chatsworth, Calif.-based developer of single-mode active and passive fiber optic components, said that its chief financial officer, Edmund Glazer, died in today's apparent terrorist attack in New York City. In a statement issued late today, MRV officials confirmed that Glazer was on American Airlines Flight No.11 that crashed into the World Trade Center in New York. Founded in 1988, MRV Communications is a world class leader in optical network components and systems. The company has leveraged its early leadership in fiber optic transmission into a well focused range of solutions, integrating switching, routing, remote access and optical transmission systems. Over the years, MRV has earned a reputation for product innovation by pioneering new technologies. As a result, MRV was first in remote access, first with 10/100 dual speed LAN switch, first to deploy Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) technology in residential access networks and first with free space optical transmission. Edmund Glazer was appointed Vice President of Finance and Administration and Chief Financial Officer in June 1995. He has been with the company since October 1994 serving as Operations Manager. In 1993 and 1994, Glazer served as a consultant providing document imaging and information systems to clients. From 1986 to 1993, Glazer served as Vice President of Finance at Concord Electrical Supply, a distributor of electrical and electronic products. From 1984 to 1986, he worked as a certified public accountant at the accounting firm of Singer, Lewak Greenbaum & Goldstein. From 1981 to 1984, Glazer worked as an auditor at the accounting firm of Weber, Lipshie & Co. In 1983, Glazer qualified as a Certified Public Accountant from the State of California. Noam Lotan, president and CEO of MRV said in the statement, "This is a very sad day for MRV and for all who knew Edmund. He was a true friend and his kindness and devotion will be deeply missed. We have lost a member of our family, and his loss is overwhelming to us all. Our thoughts and prayers are with Edmund's family, friends and colleagues and all the families that have suffered personal losses during this tragedy." Glazer was 41 years old, and is survived by his wife, Candy and son, Nathan. End
