Tech, V.C. Communities Mourn Losses Passenger lists released by American Airlines and United Airlines, as well as media reports, show that a slew of technologists and venture capitalists were aboard doomed flights.
Most were traveling on business, some were vacationing or visiting family. While information continues to filter out, the following names were confirmed as of Thursday morning: Anna Wilson Allison, 48, president A3 Software Solutions, a firm she founded. Myra Aronson, 52, a p.r. and analyst relations manager for Compuware Corp., of Cambridge, Mass. Klaus Bothe, 31, an executive with BCT, a German software firm. He leaves a wife and child. Graham Berkeley, 37, project manager for Compuware Corp., of Cambridge, Mass. Christopher Carstanjen, 33, computer researcher for the Office of Information Technologies at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Jeffery Coombs, 42, project manager for Compaq, the Houston computer giant. He leaves a wife and three children. Edmund Glazer, 41, CFO of MRV Communications, a Chatsworth, Calif., fiber-optic component maker. He leaves a wife, Candy, and son, Nathan. [Obituary] Peter P. Hashem, 40, an employee of Teradyne, a Boston semiconductor manufacturer. He leaves a wife and two children. Peter Hanson, 32, software salesman. His wife Susan Hanson, 35, and daugher Christine, 3, were also aboard the flight. James Hayden, 47, CFO of Netegrity, a Waltham, Mass., security software firm. Previously, he worked at PTC and Deloitte & Touche. He leaves a wife, Gail, and two children. The company will establish a memorial fund in his memory. Steven D. "Jake" Jacoby, COO of Metrocall, an Alexandria, Va., wireless messaging company. Previously, he was an executive with FirstPage USA. He leaves a wife, Kim, and three children: Nicholas, Jesse and Jenna. [Obituary] Charles Jones, 48, computer programmer for BAE Systems, New Hampshire's largest employer. He was flying on business. Heinrich Kimmig, 43, founder, president and CEO of BCT Technologies, a German software firm. He leaves a wife and two children. Daniel M. Lewin, 31, co-founder and CTO of Akamai, a Cambridge, Mass., content delivery firm. He was also a doctoral candidate at MIT and previously served as an officer in the Israeli Defense Forces. He leaves a wife and child. The Rev. Jeffrey P. Mladenik, 43, interim president for E-Logic, a Web site design firm. He leaves a wife, Sue, and four children. Jane Orth, 49, a retired worker from Lucent Technologies, the telecom giant with a strong Bay State presence. She leaves two grown daughters and a son. David Retik, 33, general partner Alta Communications, a Boston venture capital firm. His wife, Susan is reportedly pregnant with the couples' third child. Philip Rosenzweig, a computer exper for Sun Microsystems' Software Systems Group. He leaves a wife and two sons. Michael Theodoridis, 32, a Boston IT consultant. He iwas a native of Greece and a graduate of Boston University. Christopher R. Zarba Jr., 47, a software engineer, Concord Communications, a Marlborough, Mass., applications development firm.
