Plaintree Acquires LaserWireless Plaintree Systems Inc., a manufacturer of Free Space Optics (FSO) equipment, is acquiring a development stage company called LaserWireless that has software which enables the remote management of FSO equipment.
Ottawa, Canada-based Plaintree Systems Inc., a manufacturer of Free Space Optics (FSO) equipment, announced today that it is purchasing venture-stage company, LaserWireless of Lancaster Penn. LaserWireless is a wholly-owned subsidiary of NextPath Technologies, Inc., a VC company and incubator that owns about a dozen companies in four technology categories. Said David Watson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Plaintree, "The LaserWireless technology has certain product features that will transfer to Plaintree's WAVEBRIDGE line and save us up to a year in development costs. The LaserWireless products will also complement our existing product lines and solidify our place as a leader in Free Space Optics." LaserWireless enables service providers to monitor and access FSO equipment over standard phone lines. LaserWireless products are currently being evaluated by a number of potential clients. Production of products for sale began only in February of 2001. The LaserWireless LaserBridgeTM 155 product operates point-to-point at a rate of 155 Mbps.
