Rededicated to SLAs

Cable & Wireless this week unveiled service level agreement enhancements for its dedicated high-speed Internet services as procured through its global IP network.

Cable & Wireless—which doesn't actually provide cable or wireless access—is offering clients some of the industry's lowest network latency specs for traffic carried on its IP network within the US and Europe, and for Trans-Atlantic and Trans-Pacific data traffic.

Reporting that its network average monthly transport of intra-US traffic is 55 milliseconds, the newly revised Cable & Wireless SLA offers latency levels nearly 5 ms faster than that of rival networks (below).

By packing latency achievements into its SLAs, Cable & Wireless seeks to assure customers that its network has the bandwidth required to deliver mission critical applications day-in and day-out—on a global scale.

In related news, Cable & Wireless also extended its global services to the UK, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Finland, Holland, Italy, Norway, France, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. Up until this week, its Global.net services were only available in the U.S. and Japan.

Mike McTighe, Cable & Wireless chief executive of global operations, said the company is committed to delivering the industry's most advanced IP network infrastructure in the world and backing up its performance with the industry's leading SLAs.

"To support our goal to be the leading global provider of IP services and solutions to business customers, we are close to putting in place a single global IP network to more cost effectively deliver services and value-added solutions for our customers, with an ultimate goal of delivering a single global quality of service," McTighe said.

The new SLAs are available for all new customers buying into Cable & Wireless' Global.net service.
