The Visionary

Like other types of inspiration, a personal business vision may not be easy to come by, but once you have it, it will carry you to success.

In my daily travels, I meet quite a few people. Most of them have an idea, and most of those are more than happy to share their ideas. (Many in gruesome detail, but that's another topic.)

As each person tells me about the cherished idea, business plan, or whatever it is, I watch for one key thing. I look for those who are truly inspired by their 'vision.' A vision is different from an idea because it has emotion, drive, conviction, and other powerful emotions attached to it.

Liftoff
You've seen it—when someone tells you about his/her business and literally lift themselves off of the seat in excitement. Every time they tell the story, they're sharing their vision. When you meet someone so inspired that they are consumed by the idea, you've met what I consider a visionary.

Many think of a visionary as someone who is going to change the world. In reality, anyone can be a visionary. You don't have to be a Bill Gross or Steve Case to qualify. You don't even have to own a company. All that's required is that you are driven to be the best and most creative in your segment.

First step
The hard part is finding your vision. Your goal. The purpose of your business life. Once you have your vision, you will be inspired to excel. Those around you will notice also, and your business will grow.

As Zig Ziglar says, selling is nothing more than a transference of feeling. If you can make your customers, your VCs, your bankers, your employees, or anyone else you deal with, feel the same way as you do about your vision, I promise you that you will excel.
