Verizon Needs More Navel Gazing

Reader says the big ISP's problems may be simpler than you'd think.

[Response to the article Verizon Network Plagued With Outages from November 27, 2000.]

[March 19, 2001]
Email a colleague

Dear Editors:

I remember Verizon was having problems with their e-mail servers in November, but now the problem has elevated to a user issue that they could have solved easily.

I know someone who has been a BellAtlantic.net (Verizon online) customer for a couple of years and just last month she couldn't send or receive e-mail. I looked at her computer and eventually went to Verizon's technical support pages and found that they changed the names/addresses of the POP3/SMTP servers.

I took a look at her e-mail client and I found no no warning messages from Verizon notifying her to reconfigure her e-mail client. I strongly believe this is the problem their customers are facing.

If you can't find the correct server, you won't get your e-mail. It is as simple as that...

Spread the word and keep up the good news.
