Toronto-based WaveRider Communications Inc., a leading fixed wireless Internet access equipment maker, recently released two new Last Mile Solution (LMS) Starter Kits. With the addition of its new 2.4 GHz and Dual Band LMS gear, WaveRider believes it offers Internet service providers a cost-effective way to deploy commercial-grade wireless broadband networks.

The 2.4 GHz and Dual Band LMS Starter Kits are complete wireless Internet access systems designed to facilitate the rollout of high-speed wireless services to businesses in areas that do not have broadband access. Priced at $7,695 (U.S.), the 2.4 GHz LMS Starter Kit includes the wireless equipment required to establish a network capable of delivering 11 Mbps connections to commercial Internet subscribers. The Dual Band LMS Starter Kit, priced at $13,995 (U.S.), delivers both 11 Mbps line-of-sight (LOS) and 2.75 Mbps non-line-of-sight (NLOS) wireless Internet service, all with a single entry-level system.

Charles Brown, Wave Rider vice president of sales and marketing, said the success of earlier wireless equipment releases prompted the company to make additional kits available to ISPs.

"The success of our first LMS Starter Kit indicates the tremendous need among service providers for cost-effective solutions to install or expand their wireless networks," Brown said. "The family of LMS Starter Kits now available offers solutions to deliver high-speed wireless service to large, medium and small businesses, home offices, and residential subscribers, all at entry-level prices."

WaveRider's NLOS systems, which was launched in January, has been ordered by more than 20 ISPs throughout the U.S., and WaveRider has already received follow up orders from LMS operators who are expanding their non-line-of-sight networks.

WaveRider's Brown said that ISP operators recognize that its LMS Starter Kits are designed and priced to support a profitable business model for their wireless business endeavors.

"For years, service providers have had only two options for delivering wireless services: invest in a large system before they had a subscriber base to support the cost; or build individual wireless links as needed," Brown said. The LMS Starter Kits are the first fully-networked wireless systems that enable service providers to start with a basic system and easily expand their network while protecting their initial investment."

The 2.4 GHz LMS Starter Kit is a complete wireless system that delivers 11 Mbps commercial-grade Internet service via the license-exempt 2.4 GHz spectrum band. The system delivers 25 dBm transmit power for a range of up to 10 miles without the need for an external amplifier, and supports up to 30 users. The 2.4 GHz LMS Starter Kit includes one CCU2000 Kit, three Wireless End User Modems (EUM2000), two Yagi antennas and two Lightning Arrestors.

The Dual Band LMS Starter Kit enables service providers to deliver commercial and residential grade service with a single network. It combines WaveRider's 902 MHz NLOS system with its 11 Mbps 2.4 GHz commercial network to serve a variety of end-users. The kit includes a CCU3000 Kit and 20-subscriber license, one CCU2000 Kit, one CCU Shelf, six Wireless End User Modems (EUM3000) with indoor antennas, three Wireless End User Modems (EUM2000), two Yagi antennas, two Lightning Arrestors, and one 902 MHz Patch Antenna.

Each WaveRider LMS Starter Kit includes product certification and training at the company's headquarters in Toronto and WaveRider priority e-mail support for three months. Service providers also receive a 902 MHz single location coverage area prediction plot for the non-line-of-sight equipment (in the U.S. only) and three 2.4 GHz link budget evaluations for the 2.4 GHz equipment. Both kits are easily expandable to support up to thousands of users.
