Point to Point at 155 Mbps The SPEEDWAVE LM155 series of OC-3 digital microwave radios promise to offer ISPs point-to-point radio communications at speeds up to 155 Mbps.
Wave Wireless Networking, a provider of broadband wireless solutions, recently unveiled its SPEEDWAVE LM155 digital microwave radios. This new line of licensed digital microwave radio products are designed to support point-to-point radio communications at speeds up to 155 Mbps. According to the company, its SPEEDWAVE LM155 digital microwave radios operate at 18 GHz, 23 GHz, 26 GHz, and 38 GHz, and offer scalable data rates and remote network management control via SNMP. The company claims that its SPEEDWAVE LM155 digital microwave radios offer a highly reliable, stable, fiber-equivalent data connection. For ISPs, who face connectivity challenges in providing their services to a variety of customers, the LM155 is designed to provide a secure backbone connection that is easily upgradeable and quickly deployable. Enterprise customers may be able to use the SPEEDWAVE LM155 to include simultaneous transport of both Fast Ethernet and separate DS-3 signals to connect LAN and voice systems between buildings over a single broadband wireless communications link. Finally, carriers may consider using the SPEEDWAVE LM155 to construct wireless Metropolitan Area Networks, wireless SONET rings, and Wide Area Networks. The SPEEDWAVE LM155 includes a low profile, high-performance antenna with an RF assembly and a rack-mountable indoor unit with flexible plug-in interface modules to support SONET/SDH fiber, copper and Ethernet interfaces. The modulation scheme can vary from 16 level QAM to 256 level QAM providing occupied bandwidths from 25 to 56 MHz. This should give a system integrator the option to trade off system gain for bandwidth by using a number of available configurations. Also, systems are available in one or two antenna arrangements to provide equipment backup capabilities, if desired. In summary, the company says that its SPEEDWAVE LM155 offers:
"The LM155 is ideal for Internet Service Providers (ISPs), telecommunication carriers, and private enterprises looking for fiber connectivity speed without the cost or implementation delays," said Patrick Pacifico, vice president of Marketing and Product Management for Wave. "Even in competitive domestic markets, compared with leasing an OC-3 or trenching fiber, many customers will enjoy an ROI of less than 4 months." Availability and pricing
