smartBridges of Singapore has announced airBridge Outdoor (model SB2110), a $379 external version of its airBridge 802.11 client device.

airBridge Outdoor will support different types of FCC certified antennas for different pattern and gain needs of wireless Internet Service Providers (WISPs). It uses Power over Ethernet (PoE) to receive electricity thanks to bundling of the smartBridges powerShot PoE injector device. It can be mounted indoors or out and includes all the mounting hardware. It can withstand temperatures from -40 degrees to 131 degrees Fahrenheit—it's housed in a weatherproof NEMA 4X-rated enclosure, which protects it from dust, oil or moisture. The unit uses software controls to set the power output, letting the user control the overall range, though the build in LongRange wireless radio provides for enhanced receiver sensitivity.

"airBridge Outdoor features the best performance radio design available today. I think it is all set to become the preferred CPE device for the wireless service providers," says Marlon Schafer of smartBridges' Odessa Office in the United States.

The product includes a copy of the SNMP-based simpleMonitor site survey and configuration software to help track transmission signal quality.

airBridge Outdoor is available from the smartBridges website or from the companies distributors.
