Spectrum Wireless' Integrated Broadband Operating System (IBOS) promises sophisticated network service capabilities for fixed wireless broadband networks.

Spectrum Wireless, Inc., a developer of wireless IP routers, announced the launch of version 3.0 of its proprietary integrated broadband operating system. According to the company, its Wireless' Integrated Broadband Operating System (IBOS) delivers sophisticated network service capabilities so fixed wireless broadband networks can provide advanced network service and management elements.

The sophisticated IP feature set should give wireless broadband service operators the flexibility to deliver a wide range of customer solutions in a single box. Some of the features available include DHCP, NAT, VPN, firewall, RIP and OSPF in the dynamic routing set, customizable options for service provider configuration, and traffic shaping so service providers can offer QoS.

Spectrum Wireless integrates multiple radio systems in licensed and unlicensed bands for flexibility in frequency and performance including 1.9 GHz, 2.4 GHz, 2.5 GHz, 3.5 GHz, and 5.8 GHz. The solution supports different radio systems so the features may be applied across a growing number of wireless transport systems—providing uniformity in application regardless of the wireless system chosen.

A menu-driven interface should offer easy configuration and may reduce the needs for training. Benefits received by providers should include reduced CPE costs associated with additional routers and other equipment. According to the company, Spectrum Wireless' solution is the only integrated system at the edge of a network enabling routing at Levels 3-7, which may reduce capital expenses and create more scalable networks that grow to the needs of service providers and end customers.

"Spectrum Wireless is pleased to be able to offer such rich features and functionality to our service providers," said Dave Bukovich, Spectrum Wireless' Director of Wireless Services. "As we launch IBOS to meet the needs of the telecommunications carrier, private network operator, radio manufacturer, and ISP markets, we look to continue designing and building state-of-the-art wireless routing infrastructure components for WLL/Fixed Broadband systems to solve the challenges of the last mile."

Availability and pricing
The 2.4 GHz business and residential units are available today while 2.5 GHz and 5.8 GHz units are currently being developed.

Final pricing for the wireless IP router fully integrated with IBOS software is $895 list/retail for the business unit and $439 list/retail for the residential unit.
