ORiNOCO AS-2000 Price Cut Agere Systems, formerly known as the Microelectronics Group of Lucent Technologies, this week lowered the price on the ORiNOCO Access Server 2000.
The ORiNOCO AS-2000 is a high-security wireless networking system for enterprises, educational institutions, government organizations and service providers. The AS-2000 is now available at a manufacturer's suggested list price of $1,495, a $500 reduction from its previous price. Jan Haagh, Agere Systems server product manager, said its price reduction addresses customer demand for advanced security networking systems at affordable prices. "We have decided to significantly lower the price on our AS-2000 systems for customers who are opting for enhanced levels of security in their wireless networks," Haagh said. "While Agere supplies a wide-range of products based on industry standard WEP encryption, our AS-2000 enhanced security system is available for customers wanting advanced protection against intruders." Agere's AS-2000 is currently shipping and it includes true per user/per session encryption using a unique encryption key for both up and down traffic, ensuring additional security for individual users. The AS-2000 utilizes the 128-bit RC4 encryption engine that provides a higher level of security than WEP-based encryption, and protects the network from intrusions. The AS-2000 also provides Automatic, Individual Encryption Key Management that relieves IT managers from the task of manually changing the encryption keys. Encryption keys are distributed securely and fully automatically. They are valid for one user and one session only. Unlike other high security wireless network products that require expensive proprietary servers, the ORiNOCO AS-2000 utilizes any standard RADIUS server to provide User Authentication, Authorization and Accounting (AAA). The protocol identifies users before allowing access to the network and authorizes them for service according to their specific profiles. The system also maintains accounting records to accurately track and bill usage for each end-user. The AS-2000 is a standard simple network management protocol (SNMP) device that also works with Active Ethernet, which provides DC power over Ethernet cabling and can reduce the cost of installing a wireless network.
