Reporting + Billing = Customer Management

Packeteer's PolicyCenter promises to let service providers customize their services based on customers' needs, manage service level agreements, and deliver on quality commitments.

Packeteer, Inc. announced PolicyCenter, its new central policy management solution that works with the new version of Packeteer's PacketWise software, which, in turn, supports the company's line of PacketShaper and AppVantage products.

PolicyCenter offers centralized policy management capabilities for all PacketWise-enabled devices, and the new management application is supposed to help Packeteer's enterprise, ISP and ASP customers deploy, scale and manage application Quality of Service (QoS) throughout their networks. Also, the application promises to help its customers centrally administer and update PacketShaper and AppVantage policies, software versions, and device status for Packeteer-based networks.

PolicyCenter is a standalone LDAP directory-enabled application that runs under Windows NT. The application offers a common policy configuration user interface with PacketShaper and AppVantage, which means that users should not have to learn a new interface to configure other Packeteer devices. Finally, PolicyCenter's LDAP directory-based architecture promises future integration with other directory resident information to perform policy configuration.

"As customers continue to build-out their application QoS infrastructure, the need emerges for a flexible and scalable central policy management solution," said John Tavs, vice president of product management and technology at Packeteer. "PolicyCenter was designed to meet this need for customers with growing PacketShaper and AppVantage deployments while retaining look, feel and ease of use that customers have favored in our local PolicyConsole web-based user interface."

Pricing and Availability
PolicyCenter Server for PacketWise 5.0 will be available later this quarter, with pricing that starts at $6,000.00.
