High Availability Server Small server promises greater performance and system reliability.
NETmachines announced the availability of its RedRak/HA, the company's high-availability webserver offering. Using the HA server-clustering software, which was developed by PolyServe, the new RedRak/HA models promise to extend the RedRak family of flexible Web servers to meet the needs of demanding Web server environments. According to NETmachines, the RedRak/HA server hardware may be configured with a 500MHz Intel processor, and offers removable storage for data security and expandability, a flexible chassis design for upgradability; 1RU form factor for minimal space requirements; and PolyServe's "Understudy" software for HA clustering, failover and load balancing. Understudy performs the tasks of IP service monitoring, failure detection and instant failover to an alternate host. Also included in Understudy is "ClusterScope," a JAVA-based application which is supposed to enable the system administrator to configure and manage the cluster from any console. "With the addition of HA server clustering, NETmachines' RedRak server line provides the greatest degree of flexibility for ISPs and e-businesses," said Peter Tsepeleff, CEO of NETmachines. "By combining our award-winning RedRak, 1RU server with PolyServe's category defining server clustering software, NETmachines has created an extremely powerful, yet affordable solution for ISPs, ASPs and co-location facilities that need high-availability, service monitoring and failover at a reasonable price." "We continue to be bombarded with customer requests for a way to cluster low-cost, yet very powerful server appliances for higher performance and reliability through load-balancing and failover," said Vince Schiavo, President of PolyServe. "By combining forces with NETmachines, we've created a very compelling solution, and we now look forward to working very closely with NETmachines to make the ISP/ASP world aware of this incredibly powerful, yet affordable alternative to costly layer 4 switch hardware."
