Coyote Point Systems Cuts Prices

Smaller and less expensive Equalizer, a load balancing appliance, takes up 33% less space, and reduced prices make it even more affordable.

Coyote Point Systems recently announced that it has housed its Equalizer, the company's load balancing appliance, in a 2U rack mount. This results in a system that takes up 33% less space. In addition, Coyote has also reduced the price of its Equalizer to $5995 for the E-350, and $9,995 for the E-450.

The Equalizer
According to Coyote, the Equalizer E-350 balances an unlimited number of 16-server virtual clusters, handles up to 2 million simultaneous active connections and is targeted at sites with T3 bandwidth. The E- 450, priced at $9,995, balances an unlimited number of 64-server clusters at up to 100 Mb/s and can handle up to 4 million simultaneous active connections.

The Equalizer distributes requests according to multiple criteria: Server response time, number of requests, measurements taken directly on the server via optional server agents, weighted assigned values, and geographical proximity (available with an add-on option). Equalizer 4.0, which was released just before the new year, adds Active Content Verification, which ensures that servers that fail to provide correct content for any request will be bypassed. Two Equalizers working in tandem are fully redundant, and failover can be easily configured from the browser.

Envoy
Coyote's software, the Envoy, sports a Web User Interface (WUI).
