ISPPlanet NMS Series - Castle Rock SNMPc

Final Words
Except for remote access, Castle Rock's SNMPc 5.0.9d Workgroup Edition provides every feature we'd expect from an entry-level SNMP NMS—and more. Ad hoc queries, trend reporting, real-time graphs, context-sensitive Hubviews, and SET/TFTP/BOOTP support make SNMPc convenient for device-level network management. A flexible, rule-based event system keeps you informed, letting you respond to failures quickly and automatically. During our evaluation, SNMPc ran reliably. Questions submitted to Castle Rock's personalized support website (free for 60 days, $255/year thereafter) were answered promptly.

ISPs can use SNMPc Workgroup Edition to monitor and control small-to-midsize networks from a single workstation. For larger networks, SNMPc Enterprise Edition with the Remote Extension can distribute responsibility, reduce overhead across backhaul links, and enable remote multi-user access. But at $4000, Enterprise Edition with Remote Extension is well beyond the $1000 cap for this series. One can certainly find less expensive SNMP managers with remote access. And one can also find better solutions for service-level monitoring. But SNMPc Workgroup Edition is excellent as a "single-point" SNMP network manager.
