Extreme Networks, Inc. announced a new suite of switching solutions that enable service providers and e-businesses to expand their customer offerings and provide better service. The new products, which include two new chassis systems, the BlackDiamond 6816 and 6808, and eight new modules, are, according to the company, the industry's first products to scale routing performance to more than 190 million packets per second (Pps)—more than twice the speed of the nearest competitor.

Designed to satisfy the 365x24 environment required by service providers, the BlackDiamond family of products features a passive backplane for high reliability and redundancy, hot swappable switch fabric modules for non-stop performance, easy serviceability, and both 110/220 and 48 volt backup power.

The new BlackDiamond 6816 chassis switch includes carrier-class redundancy and resiliency, a 10 Gbps Ethernet connection, and fully integrated Policy Based Quality of Service. In addition, the BlackDiamond 6816 offers impressive density with up to 192 Gigabit Ethernet ports in a single chassis, and offers 10/100 Ethernet port density of 1,536 ports

"We're offering what every service provider, ISP, and e-business wants and needs to manage growing Internet traffic," said George Prodan, vice president of worldwide marketing. "Our new service provider solution set provides users with carrier-class reliability, security, and high availability to ensure non-stop service. We're also giving them the power to add revenue-generating features without changing the infrastructure."

Pricing and availability
The BlackDiamond 6808 Chassis is available now at a list price of $5,995. The BlackDiamond 6816 Chassis will be available in the second half of the year at a list price of $14,995.
