RackSaver, Inc., a provider of high-density individual rack-mounted computer servers and supercomputer clusters, announced its RS-1133 rack-optimized Pentium 4 Server. According to the company, its RS-1133 offers all of the speed and stability of Intel's 2GHz+ Pentium 4 processor and packs it into a space-efficient, 1U rack-optimized solution, which is a breakthrough in supercomputing clusters.

Intel's Pentium 4 is well known for its capabilities, but Racksaver says that its RS-1133 has taken the Pentium 4 to a new level of density and performance in its RS-1133 server. Users should be able to stack up to 44 of these 2GHz+ Pentium 4 servers in standard seven-foot cabinets, which are located in many ISP datacenters, where they may function as high-speed webservers, application servers and database servers. They may also act as a single, powerful supercomputer that can tackle complex applications. Each unit uses RackSaver's patent-pending and proprietary cooling subsystem that promises efficiency and reliability.

Available in custom or turnkey packages, the 1U 19-inch rack-optimized server utilizes Rambus, SDRAM, or DDR memory/ CD-ROM and floppy disk are optional. The RS-1133 includes AGP video, a 10/100 Ethernet connection, a 32Bit/33MHz expansion slot that is ready for high-speed interconnects such as Gig-E, Dolphin SCI, or Myricom Myrinet. It is capable of supporting up to three hard drives allowing for up to 300GB of storage capacity in addition to the optional CD-ROM and floppy drive. The RS-1133 has an Ultra ATA-100 IDE controller, Serial and USB connectors, and supports both high and low voltage.

RackSaver says that in the past, constructing a supercomputer was cost prohibitive for most users. But when supercomputer cluster solutions emerged, the technology became available to a wider market. RackSaver claims that it brings the power of Intel's latest processors to the cluster market in a 1U 19-inch Rack-optimized server design that allows for superior performance and efficiency.

Because these supercomputer clusters are scalable, the company says that adding more computing power is easy and affordable. The servers are designed to be scaled up by adding more servers as an ISP's needs change and grow. The RS-1133 uses standard components, which the company says allows it to keep prices low.

Pricing and availability
The RS-1133 is available now in a wide variety of configurations. With Intel's 1.6GHz Pentium 4 processor, 256MB Rambus memory, 8MB AGP video, and 20GB hard drive, the RS-1133 starts at $1199.
