Groundwork for Testing Next Gen ADSL

Hoping to expand the worldwide ADSL market, Zhone Technologies Friday announced it will be working with Texas Instruments (TI) (NYSE: TXN) to provide high density infrastructure systems for operators who want to test the delivery of voice, video and data services over ADSL.

The new technology does require a special ADSL modem.

Zhone executives say the company's next generation ADSL infrastructure solutions for DSL access multiplexers (DSLAMs) and digital loop carriers (DLCs) will use TI technology to help get ADSL-related products out to the market faster.

"We credit our success in worldwide ADSL trials as a result of the work we have been doing with Texas Instruments and their leading ADSL technology," says David Markowitz, assistant vice president of marketing at Zhone Technologies. "By combining our strengths, We are able to provide the highest densities for DSLAMs and DLCs with additional services and features to expand ADSL deployments."

As part of the infrastructure, Zhone's Broadband Access Node platform for DSL, including high-speed data and voice transmission, will use TI's DSL infrastructure products including the AC5 octal chipset.

The goal of the testing is to provide the highest densities in central offices. No word yet on when any of the joint high-density infrastructure systems would be available.
