P-Cube, Inc., whose service management and billing product is called IP Service Engineering, introduced the P-Cube ServiceEngine 100 (SE100). The SE100 expands the Service Engine product family.

The SE100 is a purpose-built, application-aware network element designed to enhance service provider networks by analyzing packet level transactions, enforcing network controls, and creating new services. Housed in a low-profile, 1U high, 19-inch rack-mountable form factor, the SE100 features two full-duplex 10/100 Mbps Ethernet interfaces.

The SE100 seamlessly interfaces with existing network access, aggregation, and transport elements (plus Operations Support Systems and Business Support Systems (OSS/BSS systems)) using standard interfaces and communications protocols. Utilizing the unique IP Service Engineering architecture, the SE100 leverages the existing transport network and back office infrastructure. For cable MSOs, the SE100 operates in current DOCSIS 1.0 networks, and is designed to leverage next generation DOCSIS 1.1 systemsas they are deployed.

The SE100 actively analyzes traffic and enforces subscriber/network policies at Fast Ethernet speeds. An electrical bypass is internally integrated into the SE100 for standby and fail-over operating modes. The SE100 is targeted for use in a variety of different ISP POPs and DHubs and is designed for providers with complex application delivery requirements.

The following are examples of the applications enabled by the SE100:

  • Access control for services such as web browsing, streaming audio andvideo, Voice over IP (VoIP), and an unlimited variety of generic applicationprotocols.
  • Session control for application bandwidth management, which enablesproviders to enforce network controls, police abusive users and guaranteeapplication quality across the network.
  • Custom applications such as tiered levels of service, network hostedsecurity and digital rights management may be quickly and easily developedand deployed working with P-Cube's platform management tools.

In summary, P-Cube designed this product for the smaller POPs in a Service Provider's network, and also for sophisticated Layer 7 analysis applications.

Availability and pricing
List pricing for the SE100 with smartNET software starts at $39,995.
