Network Storage Solutions, a provider of high-performance network storage systems, recently introduced its ProStor family of NAS servers.

With a standard Intel chassis and motherboard, the ProStor family promises to deliver the processing speed and sizable caching of a high-end system at a fraction of the cost, which may make it an ideal storage platform for ISPs, small-to-medium-sized businesses, CAD/CAM/CAE, pre-press publishers and any organization that requires immediate access to large amounts of information.

According to the company, the ProStor family is highly scalable, supports up to four Gigabytes of ECC SDRAM memory, and has dual load-sharing hot swap power supplies and scalable disk capacities. The system ships by default with a five-drive back plane, which may be upgraded to provide ten internal drives in a pedestal configuration with a 5U rack-mount option.

Standard features include an 866MHz Intel Pentium-III CPU, 66 MHz 64-bit PCI support, 256MB of memory, and an internal multi-channel RAID controller. NSS network processing technology is designed to be upgraded and integrated with new technologies.

Brad Clemmons, NSS president and chief executive officer, said the ProStor NAS appliance delivers the performance, scalability, and value that ISP customers have come to expect from the firm.

"Using best of breed Intel hardware coupled with our SPANStor real-time NAS kernel provides NSS customers with enterprise class performance at workgroup pricing," Clemmons said.

"ProStor is significant because it offers workgroup and departmental users—as well as companies with limited space and budgets-an enterprise class high-performance—scalable storage system without sticker-shock," Clemmons added. "For the price, scalability, form factor, quick and reliable data delivery and storage capacity, IT managers will be hard pressed to find a better deal on the market today."

Availability and pricing
ProStor appliances can be purchased directly from NSS and are available to ship this month. Pricing begins at $7,995 for the ProStor100.
