Designed to increase the scalability, reliability, and performance of global storage networks at an economical price, Network Appliance unveiled its new entry-level and midrange storage hardware platforms and new midrange content delivery hardware solutions: the NetApp F85, F820, and F820c storage appliances (filers) for open storage networking environments. The NetCache C3100 is a high performance content delivery appliance that's designed to support larger enterprise branch locations and service provider points of presence (PoPs).

Entry-level
The NetApp F85 hardware platform is designed for remote or branch offices, workgroups, and small departments within an enterprise, as well as for medium sized businesses. This may allow customers to expand their deployment of robust storage networks or begin developing their storage infrastructures using robust building blocks. The F85 is supposed to combine fast data access and high availability with extremely low maintenance requirements, which may make it ideal for broad enterprise deployment and well suited for organizations with limited IT resources.

Designed to offer affordable enterprise class performance and effortless management, the NetApp F820 filers, which are supposed to scale up to 3TB of raw storage capacity, may be effective storage elements for today's small and medium-sized enterprises. The F820c has integrated failover, which may maximize system availability and minimize unplanned downtime.

The company claims that its F820c scales to 6TB of raw storage capacity. The F820/F820c complement NetApp F840/F840c data center deployments or offer powerful storage for a large department or workgroup.

The F820/F820c may be especially appealing for ISPs, ASPs, and SSPs as a way to add storage capacity and dramatically improve the performance of commercial and scientific applications running throughout an enterprise.

Deliver the PoP
The NetCache C3100 is designed for content delivery in the enterprise data center or ISP points of presence (PoPs). The C3100 is designed to enable applications such as distance learning, internal communications, and training, which may be becoming competitive differentiators for industry-leading enterprises. Scalable to 252GB of storage, the C3100 may be a natural evolution for content delivery as data is becoming richer and more bandwidth-intensive. The C3100 complements network core deployments of the C6100 for content delivery and offers greater performance for very-high-traffic edge uses.
