Multi-Mode ADSL Router

Designed to offer enhanced routing capabilities and cost-effective networking features as a router or a bridge.

Infinilink Corporation announced the release of its i510 multi-mode ADSL router featuring enhanced routing capabilities and web-based configuration.

Configurable as either a bridge or a router, Infinilink says that the i510 provides a minimum of eight permanent virtual circuits (PVCs) allowing for the availability of more independent services over a single Internet connection.

It also possesses dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) configuration capabilities that should allow the server to automatically configure computers on the LAN side, which may make the i510 ideal for small- to medium-sized businesses.

Other extended features include DNS relay, TFTP server and Network Address Translation (NAT).

The i510 features an embedded processor responsible for implementing all ATM and protocol encapsulation software functions allowing it to provide an "always on" connection for network ready PCs.

Designed to be compliant with current industry standards, the i510 should support connections at up to 8Mbps with telephone companies and service providers using G.dmt and T1.413i2 Annex A standards. It also provides full G.lite (1.5Mbps) and G.hs compliance. Additionally, the i510 supports Infinilink's patent-pending dsl-ON software.

According to Infinilink, dsl-ON is auto-configuration software that may be able to cut DSL deployment costs 70 percent by eliminating installation and configuration "truck rolls."

The i510 is designed to be used with recent Microsoft Windows releases including Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 2000, and Windows NT4. Additional support including Linux and MacOS is due in Q1 2001.

"The i510, when used with Infinilink's patent-pending dsl-ON auto-configuration software, is scalable for use by regional and national ISPs," said Ed Matsukane, vice president of research for Infinilink. "Also, from a logistical point of view the number of SKUs that an ISP would need to control is greatly reduced."

"Another benefit of the i510 is that its compatibility with dsl-ON makes it possible to reduce truck rolls by more than 70 percent, allowing ISPs to make money on the line without having to put it right back into technical support," added Matsukane.

Availability and pricing
The i510 is available immediately and is priced at $185 for small volume orders.
