Netopia Demonstrates R6000 ADSL

June 15, 2000 --  Netopia recently announced that its new R6000 series Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) routers are demonstrating full interoperability with central office equipment from Alcatel, Cisco, Nokia, Nortel, Orckit, Paradyne, Siemens and other prominent ADSL Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer (DSLAM) manufacturers. The company made the announcement at the DSL Forum's Supercomm 2000 Interoperability Showcase.

The company says that its R6000 series brings to ADSL unparalleled business-class features that distinguishes Netopia's SDSL and IDSL products, but also includes the industry's only ADSL routers (models R6120 and R6131) to offer an integrated V.90 or ISDN dial backup module. Netopia claims that this feature will allow small businesses to maintain mission-critical Internet connectivity, should their primary ADSL connection ever go down, and enable CLECs and service providers to configure routers remotely and "fast track" Internet service by offering customers immediate V.90 or ISDN service while they are waiting for their ADSL circuit to be turned up.

"We designed the Netopia R6000 series as a true business-class ADSL router, providing features that really answer the practical needs of small and medium size businesses," said Michael Trupiano, senior vice president and general manager, Netopia Internet Equipment Division.

"We recently certified Netopia's R7200 series SDSL routers as interoperable with Paradyne's Hotwire GranDSLAM, and we are very happy to extend this certification to Netopia's new R6000 series ADSL routers," said Frank Wiener, vice president of Broadband Access Solutions at Paradyne.
