March 14, 2002 -- BellSouth Corp. (NYSE: BLS) introduced BellSouth FastAccess HomeNetworking Service, which connects multiple computers and facilitates simultaneous high-speed Internet access within a household, all protected by a professional-grade firewall.

By networking computers, printers and peripherals to a single FastAccess DSL connection, the plug-and-play solution should enable multiple members of a household to experience the same convenient and reliable broadband access to the Internet. FastAccess HomeNetworking Service is designed for easy self-installation, eliminating the need and cost of a technician visit.

BellSouth FastAccess HomeNetworking Service utilizes the 2Wire HomePortal 1000 residential gateway, a router, modem and firewall, all in one device. The device is plugged into a single telephone jack, enabling the existing telephone wires in a home to serve as the network and eliminating the need for adding new wires between rooms.

BellSouth FastAccess DSL HomeNetworking Service is available for an additional $10 a month, along with the standard DSL monthly rates of either $49.95 a month or $45 per month for BellSouth Complete Choice customers. A one-time equipment charge starting at $149 for the HomePortal residential gateway will also apply. FastAccess HomeNetworking uses Home PNA (Phone Networking Adapter) technology, which enables the computers to be connected to the network via a home's standard telephone jacks, as well as to existing Ethernet cabling. FastAccess HomeNetworking includes 24/7 live technical support.
