February 28, 2002 -- "Qwest commends the House for passing this long-overdue deregulatory measure which could place our DSL service on an equal regulatory footing with cable modem services which today dominate the high speed Internet access market," said Lauren J. Belvin, Qwest vice president, federal policy and law. "Qwest remains fully committed to carrying out the principles of the Telecommunications Act of 1996 and is working diligently through the Sec. 271 process. "We fully expect to be in the long distance business later this year in all of the 14 Western states where we provide local service."
