SureWest Completes First Phase of Fiber BuildoutWayne
Kawamoto February 1, 2002 -- Integrated communications provider SureWest Communications (Nasdaq:SURW) announced that its telephone subsidiary, Roseville Telephone, has completed the first phase of its fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) program. The program extends the company's existing fiber-to-the-curb infrastructure to customers in Del Webb's Sun City Roseville community and portions of the Highland Reserve and Diamond Oaks neighborhoods of Roseville who previously weren't able to access high-speed data service. The technology utilizes FTTH passive optical networks provided by Optical Solutions Inc. to provide customers with voice and high-speed data services and virtually unlimited bandwidth. Passive optical networks share the costs of fiber and equipment among several customers and eliminate expensive, powered equipment between the customer and the primary telephone network. -End- |
