February 1, 2002 -- Level 3 Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: LVLT) announced that it has executed an agreement to sell metropolitan dark fiber in Washington, D.C., to the District of Columbia city government.

The District will use more than 20 fibers from Level 3 to create a high-speed data network linking government buildings at various locations across the city.
