NTELOS to Sell Excess PCS Spectrum

January 16, 2002 -- NTELOS Inc. (Nasdaq: NTLO) has entered into a definitive agreement to sell personal communications services (PCS) licenses in Williamsport and State College, PA. NTELOS' customers and operations will not be affected by this transaction, as the company does not currently operate in these markets.

The sale includes 10 MHz A-block licenses for the Williamsport and State College, PA Basic Trading Areas (BTAs) covering approximately 300,000 people. The transaction, which is pending FCC approval, is expected to close around the end of second quarter 2002. The buyer and terms were not disclosed.
