Covad Communications (OTCBB: COVD), a national broadband services provider utilizing DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) technology, announced Patrick Bennett as senior vice president of sales. Bennett will be responsible for Covad's direct sales and retail channel development. This is a new position that will compliment Covad's wholesale business, which currently provides the bulk of Covad's revenue. The direct sales position will manage all Covad.net direct channel sales and support, telesales and retail channel sales and development. Bennett will be located in Media, Pennsylvania, where the majority of Covad's direct sales efforts reside. Bennett, age 54, brings to Covad 19 years of successful sales development and management expertise, including the development of effective customer care, sales and marketing organizations, channel development and strategic planning.

Yipes Communications, Inc., a provider of scalable Ethernet services, announced the appointment to its advisory board of Robert M. ("Bob") Metcalfe, the co-inventor of Ethernet, founder of 3Com Corp., publisher and venture capitalist. Metcalfe is a venture capitalist at Polaris Venture Partners, focusing on information technology startups in the Boston area. He is a director of Avaki, Avistar, Camden Technology Conference, Ember, IDG, IDC, Kelmscott Rare Breeds Foundation, MIT, MediaLabEurope, Nanosys, and Narad. Metcalfe serves on the technical advisory boards of Invisible Hand and Sockeye. Metcalfe had three careers before becoming a venture capitalist. As an engineer-scientist (1965-1979), Metcalfe helped build the early Internet. In 1973, at the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center, he co-invented Ethernet, the international local-area networking standard on which he shares four patents. As an entrepreneur-executive (1979-1990), Metcalfe founded 3Com Corp., the billion-dollar networking company. And as a publisher-pundit (1990-2000), Metcalfe was CEO of IDG's InfoWorld Publishing Company (1992-1995) and widely read columnist. He also produced conferences including ACM97, ACM1, Agenda, Pop!Tech, and Vortex.

PaeTec Corp., a holding company whose principal subsidiary is PaeTec Communications, Inc., an integrated communications provider, announced that Arunas A. Chesonis, PaeTec's Chairman of the Board and CEO has been appointed to the Executive Committee of the Association for Local Telecommunications Services (ALTS). Prior to forming PaeTec, Chesonis served as President of ACC Corp., the parent company for all ACC-owned operations in the United States, Canada, Germany, and the United Kingdom, from February 1994 until April 1998, and was elected to its Board of Directors in October 1994. Chesonis holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from MIT and an MBA from the University of Rochester. This year, Chesonis was presented with the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award for his innovation within the telecommunications industry.

Con Edison Communications, Inc. (CEC) a provider of last mile fiber optic network services in metropolitan New York, has named Louis Gambino, a 20-year fiber optic infrastructure veteran, as Vice President of Network Construction. Gambino will expedite all facets and phases of CEC's metropolitan network installation, from final completion of the network backbone to all building interconnection work to satisfy lease obligations already negotiated with numerous commercial real estate owners and managers throughout New York.

Eschelon Telecom, Inc., an Integrated Communications Provider (ICP) of voice, data, Internet services and business telephone systems, announces several promotions within its senior management group and a new member to its Board of Directors. William D. Markert has been promoted to Vice President - Network Financial Management. Markert joined Eschelon in January, 2000 as Director - Cost of Access. Markert's responsibilities include network services and IP services revenue and cost reporting and analysis, cost of access management, network optimization and revenue/margin assurance. Prior to joining Eschelon, Bill served in various financial analysis, accounting and management positions for Global Crossing (formerly Frontier Corp.). Arlin B. Goldberg was promoted to Executive Vice President - Information Technology (IT) from his prior role as Vice President of IT. Previously, Goldberg was the Director of Information Services at Global Crossing (then Frontier Corp.) Prior to that, Goldberg was the Director of Information Services for Enhanced TeleManagement, Inc. Goldberg was one of Eschelon's first employees, joining the company in October,1996. Ian K. Loring was appointed to the Eschelon Board of Directors effective August 23, 2001. Loring is Managing Director of Bain Capital, Inc. and will replace Michael Krupka who served as a Bain appointee since 1999. Prior to joining Bain, Loring was a Vice President with Berkshire Partners.

CIMCO Communications, Inc., one of the Midwest's fastest growing integrated communication providers, named Margi Shaw Vice President of Business Development. Backed by over 16 years of management experience in the communications industry, Shaw will focus on advancing CIMCO's position as a leading regional Competitive Local Exchange Carrier and Internet Service Provider. In this role, Shaw is charged with expanding the scope of CIMCO's business strategy through new service methodologies, acquisition opportunities and enhanced efficiencies. Additionally, she will be responsible for improving the market reach of the company's wide range of existing voice, data and Internet-driven products and services. Shaw possesses a wide range of telecommunications experience, having served as vice president of local and long distance service providers CBG, Inc. and ICG Communications. Most recently, she co-founded Evolution Group, L.L.C., a Cleveland-based business management consulting firm specializing in developing strategic plans for marketing, sales, operations and support systems. During the course of her career, Shaw also has managed various functions in customer service, provisioning, technical applications and strategic planning.

Metromedia Fiber Network, Inc. (MFN) a provider of digital communications infrastructure solutions, announced the appointment of Randall R. Lay to the position of senior vice president and chief
financial officer, effective immediately. Lay's appointment comes on the heels of the company's closing on a $611 million financing package. Prior to joining MFN, Lay was executive vice president and chief
financial officer of International Specialty Products where he led the financial organization of the global $800 million public company.

In conjunction with securing the financing, Metromedia Fiber Network, Inc. (MFN) has reorganized its senior management team to better position itself for success in today's changing economic environment. MFN's new executive management team is led by Mark Spagnolo, President and Chief Operating Officer, who will report to Nick Tanzi. Spagnolo joined MFN following the company's acquisition of Sitesmith, where he was Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board. Spagnolo brings extensive operational experience and success in building global communications and outsourcing businesses to MFN, gained through his tenure as President and Chief Executive Officer of UUNet, a WorldCom company, and through his many years as a senior executive at EDS. Nick Tanzi will take over as Chief Executive Officer of MFN, reporting to the Board of Directors. Stephen Garofalo, the founder of MFN, will continue in the position of Chairman of the Board of MFN.

The ATSI Communications Inc. (AMEX:AI) Board of Directors unanimously appointed Stephen M. Wagner as the company's newest member of the Board of Directors, increasing the size of the Board to seven members. Mr. Wagner joined ATSI as the President and Chief Operating Officer of the company in August of this year, with full responsibility for running ATSI's U.S. telecom operations. Prior to joining ATSI, Mr. Wagner served as President of Qwest Communications International's Southern Region. In addition, he held management positions at LCI International and USLD Communications prior to both companies being acquired by Qwest in 1998 and 1997, respectively. He has over 20 years telecommunications-related experience.

Global Crossing Ltd. (NYSE:GX), which provides integrated telecommunications solutions over the world's first integrated global IP-based fiber optic network, announced several new appointments in a reorganization of senior management designed to strengthen the company's global customer focus. The role of president and chief operating officer previously held by David Walsh has been eliminated.

Global Crossing leverages its worldwide network to serve two main customer segments, carriers and businesses. As part of the reorganization to ensure that these customer groups are best served, Patrick Joggerst has been named Executive Vice President, Carrier Sales and Marketing and Margaret (Peg) Lockwood has been named Executive Vice President, Business Sales and Marketing. Both will report directly to Legere.

In his new role, Joggerst will be responsible for all sales and marketing activities relating to the company's carrier customers. Most recently, as Co-President, Global Carrier Services, Joggerst oversaw Global Crossing's worldwide Carrier Services operating division with operations and network facilities spanning five continents and 27 countries. Joggerst also served as President for Global Crossing in South America, where he managed all of the company's activities in the region.

As Executive Vice President, Business Sales and Marketing, Lockwood will be responsible for all aspects of sales to all business customers, including sales support, sales operations and marketing. Lockwood has extensive experience, a proven track record in driving strategic sales initiatives, and the vision and skill needed to position Global Crossing as a leading force in today's competitive global marketplace.

Lockwood previously served as the Senior Vice President, Multinational Corporation Sales, North America. She joined Global Crossing with twenty-four years of industry experience, most recently as managing partner at AT&T Solutions. There she directed a team of 500 people and was responsible for the sale of custom managed solutions, hosting, and call center services. Prior to this, she served as executive director of strategic services at MCI WorldCom, where she was employed for twelve years. Lockwood's telecommunications career also includes ten years at RCA with experience in technical sales, operations, alternate channel sales, direct sales, and finance.

Jim Cali has been named Senior Vice President, Product Management where he will be responsible for the development, deployment, and on-going management of the company's product and services suite. Cali joined Global Crossing this past August as Senior Vice President, Global Product Strategy and Management. He will report directly to Legere. Cali has an extensive background in the telecommunications industry with more than 15 years of experience in various management positions including Product Management, Business Development, National Account Sales and Marketing. Most recently, Cali was a Vice President at Qwest, where he developed sales strategies to position ASP services to the Fortune 500 marketplace. While working with Qwest's Internet Solutions group, Cali coordinated product development and deployment strategies for multimedia services. He targeted strategic accounts to begin the framework of a product set specialized for the media industry, and instituted field trials and development programs with NBC, Sony, BMG and Disney. Cali has also held management positions at Sprint, MCI and TyCom.

Gerald (Jerry) Santos has joined Global Crossing as Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications. Santos will manage all aspects of external and internal communications efforts including public relations, marketing communications, employee communications, advertising, and branding. Santos has extensive experience in both Fortune 20 and startup settings and is well-versed in the communications demands of highly competitive global organizations. Santos was previously vice president of worldwide public relations and communications with Concert Communications. Santos created a worldwide communications strategy and organization to position Concert as a leader in the global communications market when it was a newly formed company. Prior to his role at Concert, Santos held several senior leadership positions in the communications organization within AT&T, most recently as Vice President, Global Communications for AT&T Asia Pacific.

Separately, Asia Global Crossing announced that William (Bill) Barney has joined that company as president, business services. In this role Barney will be responsible for all aspects of sales and service delivery to enterprise customers including customer care, product development and management, and network deployment and operations. Barney joins from WorldCom, where he was president, Asia Pacific. A seasoned telecommunications professional, Barney has more than 14 years of industry experience and has also worked with AT&T and Global One.

Carl Grivner, Jose Antonio Rios, Dan Cohrs, Joe Perrone, John Comparin, Joe Clayton, and Rhett Brandon round out the new senior management roster.
