CLEC People - April 19, 2001Wayne KawamotoManaging Editor, CLEC-Planet Net2000 Communications (Nasdaq: NTKK), a competitive provider of broadband telecommunications services, announced the appointment of Gerry A. Simone to the newly created position of senior vice president and chief communications officer. Simone will report to Net2000's Chairman and CEO, Charlie Thomas, and be based in the company's Northern Virginia headquarters with oversight for creating and managing the company's external programs, including national media relations and corporate marketing communications. Simone brings more than 20 years of experience in building identities for competitive telecom and technology companies. Simone has served as in-house and agency communications counsel to global telecommunications and information technology companies, Internet start-ups, financial institutions, foreign governments and diversified public companies involved in multiple acquisitions. Recently, Simone served on the executive management team of Women.com Networks -- a top-50 web property. She also held executive communications roles with MCI Communications Corporation and leading IT and systems integration companies, and spent the first part of her career with some of the largest public relations and advertising agencies in the Washington, D.C area. Net2000 Communications also announced the appointment of Edward Rowan as the new vice president and general manager for the company's Richmond, Virginia sales operations. Rowan previously served as a branch director with Net2000 in the Washington, DC region. In this new position, he will direct the continued growth of business in the region from Richmond to the Virginia Beach-Hampton Roads area. Since 1999, Net2000 has maintained sales and network operations facilities in the Richmond area. Prior to joining Net2000 in 2000, Rowan held various sales leadership positions in the telecommunications industry. He was selected to open Allegiance Telecom's first sales office in the Washington, DC area, and, before that, spent eight years with Bell Atlantic, most recently serving as a regional manager on a team responsible for build that company's long-distance product line. Rowan holds a bachelor's degree from Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, and an MBA in Marketing & International Business from The George Washington University. Global Crossing (NYSE:GX), which provides integrated telecommunications solutions over a global IP-based fiber optic network, announced the addition of three new members to its Board of Directors: William S. Cohen, former U.S. Secretary of Defense; Maria Elena Lagomasino, Co-Head of the JP Morgan Private Bank; and Mark Attanasio, Group Managing Director of Trust Company of the West. William S. Cohen has been Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of The Cohen Group, a strategic business consulting firm, since January, 2001. Additionally, he is a co-director at Empower America, a prominent public policy advocacy group, as well as Chairman of the William S. Cohen Center for International Policy and Commerce at the University of Maine. From January 1997 through January 2001, he was Secretary of Defense in the Clinton Administration. Prior thereto, he was a three-term United States Senator after having served three terms in the U. S. House of Representatives. He also serves on the Board of Directors of Cendant Corporation and Asia Global Crossing Ltd. As co-head of the JP Morgan Private Bank, Maria Elena Lagomasino oversees one of the largest providers of wealth management services worldwide. Lagomasino joined The Chase Manhattan Bank in 1983 and was appointed Global Private Bank Executive in November 1997. Lagomasino also serves on the boards of directors of Philips-Van Heusen Corporation, Avon Products, Inc. and Asia Global Crossing Ltd. and is on the board of trustees of the Synergos Institute. Lagomasino is a member of The Committee of 200. She was inducted into the Academy of Women Achievers, Class of 1992, by the YWCA/NYC. Mark Attanasio has been a Group Managing Director of Trust Company of the West, an independent trust company, since 1995. He is a member of the TCW Group's Board of Directors and oversees the firm's investment management activities in below-investment-grade securities and special situations. Attanasio is also a director of TCW Asset Management Company, and is a member of the board of trustees of the Brown University Third Century Fund, which invests a portion of the University's endowment. He also serves as a director of Asia Global Crossing Ltd. Network Plus (NASDAQ:NPLS), am integrated communications provider (ICP) of bundled voice and high-speed data services, announced the appointment of James J. Cunningham as both Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Senior Vice President. Cunningham brings over 32 years of leadership experience in the fields of telecommunications and data services. Prior to joining Network Plus, Cunningham served as the Vice President of AT&T's Broadband Network Solutions which provided large corporate customers with ultra fast data networking delivered at speeds of OC-3 and above. Cunningham also served as Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of Broadstreet Communications where he led the design, development and deployment of their integrated voice and data network architecture. Verado (Nasdaq: VRDO), a provider of outsourced
data center and managed service solutions for businesses,
announced that it has appointed industry executives John
Carroll as vice president of sales for the company's
Central region, based in Dallas, and Hal Kaplan as
vice president of sales for the Western region, based in
Irvine. Recently, Carroll was Southwest regional vice
president and general manager for Genuity (Nasdaq: GENU).
Prior to joining Verado, Kaplan was Southwest vice president
for GlobalCenter, a Global Crossing company that in January
was acquired by Exodus (Nasdaq: EXDS). Carroll and Kaplan
will be responsible for the expansion of Verado's customer
base in key markets including Dallas, Houston, Denver, Salt
Lake City, Portland, Santa Clara, San Diego and Irvine.
Additionally, Carroll and Kaplan will continue to build on
Verado's efforts that focus on partner, channel and vendor
relations, with an emphasis on businesses that understand
the value of making investments in hosting environments
including colocation and managed services. Prior to joining
Verado, Carroll gained 20 years of telecommunications
experience with Genuity and AT&T. At Genuity, Carroll
was responsible for $200 million in annual sales. As
national sales director for AT&T, he was responsible for
significant annual revenue growth and for negotiating the
largest sale in the history of the Network Commerce Services
division. Carroll completed the Cambridge Institute's
executive development program at the Massachusetts Institute
of Technology. He received a master's degree in business
administration from Central Missouri State University and a
bachelor of science degree in marketing from Rockhurst
College. Prior to joining Verado, Kaplan was responsible for
building an experienced sales force as well as vendor and
partner programs for GlobalCenter's Southwest region. From a
non-existent base, Kaplan grew the region into part of an
approximate $200 million annual business that included some
of the world's largest enterprise and e-commerce businesses.
Kaplan received a master's degree in business administration
and a bachelor's degree in business from the University of
Michigan. |
