Intergalactic Humor Members of the ISP-Colo list discuss how you should handle the fact that the earth is a single point of failure. Don't panic, answers are at hand (or far, far away). On the ISP-Colo list in October, PG announced,
[JR commented] "The scary thing is I bet that phone number will get some calls." Others voiced significant concerns about the offering: [SN demanded] "How much for a square mile? And is this carrier neutral? What happens if Mars attacks?" [BB added] "You know, the sun is a single point of failure. If you are going to go off-planet, might I suggest colocating in another solar system, or better yet, in another universe. That way you'll be redundant all the way up to the universal level." JL noted that, once again, reality may actually be stranger than fiction: "You know, this is not too far fetched. There is actually a satellite orbiting the earth right now with a PowerMac G4 web server on board serving content." [PC observed] "It's true. There's an article about this online: Company to Fly First Web Server in Space." But in the end, it was MS who came forward with the best new offering of all: "Belownet.com is pleased to announce our new solipsistic e-hosting solution. You may choose to believe you have as much colo space as you need."
