Hugh Ashton was born in the UK, and moved to Japan over 12 years ago. He has helped to set up and manage the largest commercial NeXT network in Japan, and to select and deploy the UNIX servers at Japan's first public-access ISP.

He now works from home in Kamakura, about an hour south of Tokyo, as a writer, courtesy of the Internet. He and his wife Yoshiko share a cable modem connection and more computers than is healthy for two people.
